Education

On the field of Education- one of the four statutory aims of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation -, the Education and Scholarships Department's mission is to promote the educational development in Portugal, in particular through projects and activities that foster lifetime training, the use of new technologies in education, the acquisition of new skills and know-how to increase the educational/training system effectiveness, the development of basic training areas and all activities contributing to the full development of children, young people and adults, in emotional, cognitive, social and cultural terms.

Also on the field of Education, the Foundation houses an Art Library with more than 220,000 documents, including books, audiovisual and multimedia records.

The work done by the Foundation on the field of Education in Africa and East Timor (Portuguese speaking countries) mainly involves institutional capacity building, reforming education systems and training trainers in education.
